GL Announce New Album and Release New Track 'Pistachio'

Today Melbourne-based pair GL (aka Graeme Pogson and Ella Thompson) welcome their new single “Pistachio”, out via their own label, Pool Records. With the track, the act also reveal their impending sophomore album release, You Read My Mind arriving on Friday, September 25.

As one of Australia’s premier electronic acts with a left-centre finesse, “Pistachio” is a signature serve of soothing grooves from the duo. The track is spearheaded by Ella’s warm vocals, drawn out to carry electronic textures towards a welcoming space of punchy tempos and soul-melting euphoria. The smooth entwining of delicately whirring synths and crunchy basslines is stamped with GL’s distinctive rhythms, in a dance floor moment not to be forgotten.

GL say of the track: "Pistachio - apart from being the most delicious of all nuts, the song is about reconciling memories and past versions of ourselves. Beneath our hard shells, we all want to share our secrets with somebody. Recorded at Swimming Pool Studio in Fitzroy, Pistachio was the final ingredient needed to complete our new album."

“Pistachio” follows on from last year’s releases “Contagious” and “Night Habit”, together collating for their upcoming 2020 full-length, You Read My Mind. A 13-track journey through the GL psyche, the record showcases a honed sound yet expansion in musical identity between dreamlike trances to darker tones and guiding emotion, backed by impassioned vocals and juxtaposed in body-tingling beats.

From 2013’s Love Hexagon EP to acclaimed 2016 debut album Touch and their 2017 double A-sided 12” Destiny/Reflect, GL’s international recognition precedes them, counting accolades from The Guardian, CLASH Magazine, i-D, The Fader, V Magazine and XLR8R on top of over 4 million online streams across their discography. As well as receiving extensive airtime on BBC Radio 1, Touch was also awarded feature album/album of the week on FBi Radio, SYN FM and Radio Adelaide.

2019 saw GL perform their first headline show in over two years at Howler in Melbourne following wide praise from national community radio stations for returning single “Night Habit” and a remix from Melbourne pop and performance artist Sui Zhen for the track. Between selling out a national and international tour of their first album back in 2016, GL have performed at some of the country’s most distinguished festivals including Splendour In The Grass, St Jerome’s Laneway Festival, Meredith Music Festival, Pitch Festival, Panama, Lost Paradise and Beyond The Valley. Most recently, GL brought their live spectacle to the stage of Brisbane’s End of the Line festival towards the close of 2019, the fundraising efforts of Melbourne’s Music That Matters bushfire relief event, plus PBS’s Sound Like Home series and live stream festival, Isol-Aid this year.

Now as one of Australia’s most admired electronic duos eagerly prepare the release of their long-awaited second album, dig in to the sweetly serene taste of “Pistachio” today.
