Today, after premiering on triple j's Home & Hosed earlier in the week, Milan Ring returns with new single ‘BS’, featuring rising London-based rapper Che Lingo out now via Astral People Recordings / [PIAS]. In a sentiment sure to resonate with fans around the world, Milan Ring says of the track, “Life keeps throwing us BS but how are we going to deal with it?”

L.A.’s Grammy-nominated producer J.LBS (Anderson Paak, Kendrick Lamar, Jorja Smith), fellow West Coast producer MYBOYROACH (Kid Cudi, Schoolboy Q) and Western Sydney all-rounder BLESSED (The Kid Laroi, Manu Crooks) all lent writing credits to the track. In her Sydney-based studio, Milan Ring was inspired to add a syncopated Latin spin to the bouncy bass riff of early sessions, “I decided to make my guitars focal & reinvent the music, writing & recording all of the parts in my studio during lockdown.”

A collaboration over Zoom saw the feature verse from Che Lingo come to life. Named “One To Watch” by The Guardian, the UK rapper signed to Idris Elba's record label 7Wallace and has collaborated with the likes of Mick Jenkins, Ghetts and Kojey Radical.

Choreographed by the BINDI BOSSES, single artwork for ‘BS’ features the Mudra (Indian dance symbol) for Aarala, which refers to drinking poison, reflecting the song’s themes of “self-sabotage and ego-driven behaviour taking the form of anger, drinking and gambling”, explains Milan Ring.

Balancing these ideas, the music video for ‘BS’ was shot in Sydney and directed by bou (of bou design house) and follows a more hopeful reaction to the chaos of life. “[It’s] about grounding oneself and dancing away the BS!”

To accompany the release and off the back of her show at the Sydney Opera House as part of Barrabuwarri with Ziggy Ramo, Barkaa, JK-47 and Becca Hatch, Milan announces her first headline shows for the year, A Trio of Shows at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory on June 9 (two sessions) supported by Liyah Knight and Melbourne’s Max Watt’s on July 2 supported by POOKIE. It also marks the first time she’s performing with her full band in Melbourne. Tickets are on sale now.

A singer, rapper, guitarist, producer, mix engineer, Milan Ring meticulously curates each and every aspect of the creative process, from the first chord struck on the guitar to the final mix.

Milan Ring has worked in the studio with artists including SZA, DRAM, Chance The Rapper's group The Social Experiment, BJ The Chicago Kid, LL Cool J, The Avalanches, Cosmo’s Midnight and more.

2020 saw the signing to tastemaker label Astral People Recordings (Wave Racer, Stevan) alongside the release of two new singles ‘Are Your Friends Alright?’ (co-prod. BLESSED) and ‘Switch Off’ (co-prod. The Social Experiment), which received love from triple j, BBC Radio 1, VOGUE, NME and Refinery29, among others.

‘BS (feat. Che Lingo)’ is out now on Astral People Recordings / [PIAS].
