Astral People presents… MOODY-TOWN with Moodymann + special guests.

One of club culture’s most fascinating characters. The enigmatic Moodymann returns to Australian shores to headline a heightened dance experience in Eora / Sydney and Meanjin / Brisbane.

Moodymann is a club heavyweight who has left an indomitable mark on the cultural sphere, fiercely doing things on his own terms. A key identity in Detroit’s ever affecting legacy - Moodymann would emerge amongst fellow luminaries such as Carl Craig, Theo Parrish and Rick Wilhite. His classic material is endless, the majority via his own cult DIY imprints KDJ and Mahogani Music. Diametrically opposed to today’s obsession with fast and overblown productions, he is committed to creating a subtle and distinctly black imprint on techno and house. For an artist who is vehemently underground in his approach, it is made all the more significant that he finds himself as a character in Grand Theft Auto or sampled by Drake. Proof that his music connects louder than the rat race that surrounds him.

Joining Moodymann for exclusively the Eora / Sydney show is fellow Detroit maverick Omar S. He leads the new generation of producers stamping his own unique sound on the city’s proud techno tradition. With a raw and brash sound - Alex Omar Smith is one of the last of his kind. While he may be a generation just under those aforementioned, he has equally built his own legend status. Just like Moodymann -  he is 100% independent, releasing the majority of his work via his cult FXHE label. Since 2003 he’s been putting out strictly hardware made melters - from off-kilter dirty techno to exuberant vocal house; joints that dominate record bags across the planet. His music quite aptly reflects the trailblazer’s personality - no bullshit. Omar S keeps coming at the music off different faces of the prism

Moodymann leads a monster billing of compelling figures across the two nights, that includes Nigerian born future-soul star Wayne Snow. An artist whose rise has been meteoric - having collaborated with artists as diverse as FKJ, Folamour, Max Graef and Neue Graffik, while releasing music via respected imprints like Tartelet, Dekmantel, Rhythm Section. Making his Australian debut, the now Berlin based artist will bring his contemporary twist of jazz-tipped, soulful grooves for a special live performance.

Further complementing this authoritative flex are four homegrown heroes. Claire Morgan, Jad & The, Adi Toohey and Bria are set to warm the floor with their superior clubbing know-how.

This event will take place on the lands of the Gadigal, Turrbul and Jagera peoples. Astral People acknowledge their Elders past, present and emerging and pay their respect to all First Nations people. Always Was, Always Will Be.
