Born and based in Osaka, ryota has quietly become one of the most influential figures in Japan’s contemporary underground. A DJ shaped by drum and bass but never confined by it, his sound moves freely through UK garage, bass music, grime, jungle, house and breakbeat, stitched together with finesse.
Since the beginning of his career, ryota has been a constant presence in Osaka’s youth culture, setting the tone rather than following it. His international breakthrough came via Boiler Room Osaka, a set that captured both the urgency and openness of his approach. Reaching 1.4 million streams in just three weeks, resonating far beyond Japan.
In 2019, ryota co-founded FULLHOUSE, a collective and party series that has grown into one of the country’s most vital underground platforms. Through FULLHOUSE, he has helped introduce artists such as Sherelle, Yung Singh, salute, Sammy Virji, Partiboi69 and Skin On Skin to Japanese audiences, while carving out space for a new generation of local club culture. The project positions ryota not just as a DJ, but as a curator and tastemaker with a clear sense of direction.
His rise has been marked by key moments rather than milestones: back-to-back sets with Fred again.. and Yung Singh, and appearances on lineups with artists such as Bianca Oblivion and Vegyn. In 2025, Mixmag named ryota one of its Top 25 Artists to Watch, recognising an artist whose influence is already felt well beyond his years.
ryota’s sets are fast, physical and unpredictable.
