Maribou State's reputation for crafting textured, enveloping, and atmospheric music is well-earned. Coming from a golden age of electronic music where neon synths and rhythmic glitches served for painting a larger picture more expressive than just dance floor bangers. A project with an emphasis on live musicianship, steeped from influences of classic hip-hop, world music, soul and downtempo house music.

The project began in 2011, followed by acclaimed EPs and singles before the release of their debut album ‘Portraits’. Featuring cinematic electronica with soaring peaks and minor-key vulnerability, this album captured audiences' imaginations and propelled Maribou State to the world stage.

Taking their live shows globally, with standout festival performances at Glastonbury and sold-out dates across Europe, Asia, Australia, and America. Their music became a multifaceted force, triggering huge festival moments or in contrast, soundtracking countless comedown sessions.

After more than a year of touring, Maribou State returned to the UK to work on new material. Relocating their studio from ‘The Shack’, their home-built studio in Liam’s garden in Hertfordshire, to a new base in London, they struggled to find their creative flow. The solution was to start looking outward, reflecting on their journey of the past two years. They began making regular excursions out of the city, setting up temporary studio spaces for weeks at a time. Here, they pieced together a “sonic collage” - drawing on ideas written while touring in places like India, and on field recordings from Asia, Australia, Morocco, America, and beyond. The result was 2018’s stunning "Kingdoms In Colour,” a project without borders.

Soaked in mood and mysticism, containing vibrant sonic tones resonating with light and hope. Featuring collaborations with industry heavyweights Khruangbin, Holly Walker, and North Downs elevate this project to new heights, where each chapter of the music seamlessly morphs into the next.
